This document will show you the different actions on the hsbCLT Ribbon in Autodesk Revit.

Configuration
CLTs and or Sheetings

Enrich your Revit families with hsbclt or sheeting knowledge.
When you select this option a dialog box will open that allows you to configure your CLT/sheetings.

The screen is divided into two lists. On the left, you have a list where info comes from Autodesk Revit.
This list can be filtered and contains all the structural elements from the document.
The list can be filtered by name and type (Wall, Roof, Floor).
The list on the right represents the structure of the structural element that has been selected.
The information LayerId, Function, Material and Thickness are properties that come directly out of Autodesk Revit.
Next, to the Thickness, you can assign a family and type to this Revit element.
Insert
Select the command.
The standard Revit beam command is executed with the family type set to the hsbcad beam family.
A dialog box will open called Select Family type, select a Beam (Framing) or Column in the pull-down menu.
You can draw a beam like you are used to in Revit.
Framing
Split Roofs

Split roofs into single sloped roofs so parts can be created.
Insert
Select the command.
Select the roof you want to split up.
Item Containers
Item Containers

Adds beam systems to surfaces.
Add to item Container

Adds an hsbcad element in the drawing area.
Remove from item Container

Removes an hsbcad element from an item container.
Item Container Renumber

Adds enumeration based on position to each Item Container.
The Item Container name is set after user imput and analysis of the selected container(s) solid(s).
Each Item Container name can be displayed in the 3D model view by selecting display label on the family type properties.
Insert
Select the command.
Select the Item Containers, you can select with a window or click on individual Item Containers (a plus mark appears when Item Container hasn‘t been selected yet).
Deselect the Item Containers by re-clicking or window select (a minus mark will appear on the Item Container that already have been selected).
In order to finish or cancel the selection go to the options bar.
You can also confirm the selection by pressing <enter>.
After finishing the ”Elements Renumber” dialog will pop up.

You can set a Prefix before the Item Container Name to all of the selected Item Containers.
The Number of Digits refers to the amount of characters or numbers that compose the Item Container Number.
You can choose the Sequence Type in which the Item Container Name will be displayed as.
The Start Number will be the number from which the selected Item Containers will be numbered. The rest of the Item Containers will get an increasing number.
The keep existing numbers option will not overwrite the current value of the Item Containers Name parameter.
The From Scratch option will delete the existing value of the Item Containers Name parameter and assign new numbers from scratch.
After finishing the Item Container Name parameter’s value is assigned to each of the selected Item Containers.

Behaviour
The parameters found in the dialog can also be overwritten in the family edit type properties palette.
Tools
Rabbet Joint

Insert
To apply the tool, Select the Structural Member(s) to be considered as the male joist(s).
Press the Enter key to apply the selection.
After that select the Structural Member to be considered as the female joist(s).
Press the Enter Key to finish, otherwise, repeat the selection process.
Multiple Rabbet Joints can be applied to the same female structural element, by selecting multiple male Structural Member(s).
Select the magenta-colored handler to parameterize the properties of the tool or create customized types.
Behavior
If you change the position of the Male or Female Structural Member, the Tool will still function.

Drill

Creates a circular shaped opening on a single structural member.
You can select any point on a face to place the drill.

Insert
Select the Drill command.
Select a point on a face, the Drill tool is placed on a host element or a working plane.
Select the tool to parameterize its properties or create customized types.
Behaviour
The placement of the tool will be the selected point.
You can change the position on the selected face, the tool will be applied to the new position. (it’s movable)
To change the face of the drill is, you can pick a new host for the tool family.

Model Line Drill

Creates a circular shaped opening on an individual or multiple structural member(s) following a drawn path.

Insert
The Drill in Space tool is placed on a working plane.
It cuts through intervening walls, floors, roofs, structural members and columns.
Select the tool to parameterize its properties or create customized types.
Behaviour
The placement of the tool will be the selected point.
You can change the position on the selected face, the tool will be applied to the new position. (it’s movable)
To change the face of the drill is, you can pick a new host for the tool family.

Beam Cut

Create notches or trims on the structural element(s) using the boundary profile from a selected structural element.

Insert
First, select the structural member(s) to be used as a boundary.
Second, select the structural member(s) to be trimmed or notched.
Press the Enter Key to finish, otherwise, repeat the selection process.
Multiple elements can be trimmed or notched to the same boundary, by selecting multiple male structural members.
Select the magenta coloured handler to edit the gap dimension properties.
Behaviour
The placement of the tool will be on the center of the female beam
You can change the position of the Male Structural Member, and the tool will be replaced, you can’t change the position of the Female Structural Member or the Family tool.
You see that the cut has not been made, this is because the Male Structural Member is not been connected with the Female Structural Member.
To still keep the Beam Cut, the Male Structural Member must be in contact with the Female Structural Member.

Box Cut

Creates a rectangular shaped opening, cutting through intervening walls, floors, roofs, structural members and columns.
You can cut a structural member with either an existing model line or draw a new model line.

Insert
The Box Cut tool is placed on a host element or a working plane.
Select the tool to parameterize its properties or create customized types.

Electra
Adds an Electrical circuit in a Wall Element.
Insert
The Electra tool is placed on a host element.
Select the tool to parameterize its properties or create customized types.
Behavior
The placement of the tool will be the selected point.
You can change the position on the selected face, the tool will be applied on the new position. (it’s movable).

Tools to split parts.
Add Lap Joint

Creates a lap joint tool that joins two pieces. This tool can be attached to a workplane or a face.

Insert
The Half Lap tool is placed on a host element or a working plane.
Select the tool to parameterize its properties or create customized types.

The Joint Board tool is placed on a host element or a working plane.
Select the tool to parameterize its properties or create customized types.
Add Joint Board

Creates a Joint Board tool. This tool can be attached to a workplane or a face.

Split Parts

Split the parts with the inserted tools.
Automation
Tools to automate the tools on parts.
Automated Lap Joint

Creates automatically a lap joint tool on the edge where two parts are intersecting. After this, the parts are merged and split up again with a lap joint connection.

Automated Joint Board

Creates automatically a joint board tool on the edge where two parts are intersecting. After this, the parts are merged and split up again with a joint board connection.

Automated Distribution

Creates automatically the CLT Panel Distribution of a selected wall.

Behaviour
The Zone filler should be set to CLTDistribution.
Under the general tab, you can select the distribution type, starting point of the distribution and the type of connection between the CLT elements.

Before the distribution can be applied you must add an item container to the wall, roof or floor you wish to apply the distribution too.
Select the Automated distribution command from the ribbon panel and select the item container of the structural element to apply the distribution.
Align to Edge

Aligns the grain direction to the selected edge of the structural element.
Convert
Convert a part to a hsbcad CLT, beam or sheet element.
Convert to CLT

Converts a part to a hsbcad CLT.
Convert to beam

Converts a part to a hsbcad beam.
Convert to sheet

Converts a part to a hsbcad sheet.
Utilities
Recalc

Recalculate hsbcad elements.
Insert
Trigger hsbcad Coded Family Extensions to execute.
The elements connected will be re-created.
This can solve possible issues with hsbcad families.
Create PosNums

Add position Numbers to structural members.
The hsbPosnum parameter value is set after analysis of the selected solid(s).
Each equal solid will get the same value, this number can be used for identifying objects for machining and ordering purposes.
Insert
Select the command.
Select the Structural Members, you can select with a window or click on individual Structural Member (a plus mark appears when Structural Member hasn‘t been selected yet).
Deselect the Structural Members by re-clicking or window select (a minus mark will appear on Structural Members that already have been selected).
In order to finish or cancel the selection go to the options bar.
You can also confirm the selection by pressing <enter>.
After finishing the ”Posnum Settings” dialog will pop up.

You can select the Start Number, this will be the number that will be assigned to the first beam. The rest of the beams will get an increasing number.
The keep existing numbers option will not overwrite the current value of the PosNum parameter.
The From Scratch option will delete the existing value of the PosNum parameter and assign new numbers from scratch.
After finishing the hsbPosnum parameter’s value is assigned to the “hsbRevit Beam”.

Behaviour
The hsbPosnum parameter can be overwritten manually, but this is not recommended.

Tags
Add Tags

Add tags to one or more elements.
Insert
Select the command.
Select the Structural Members, you can select with a window or click on individual Structural Member (a plus mark appears when Structural Member hasn‘t been selected yet).
Deselect the Structural Members by re-clicking or window select (a minus mark will appear on Structural Members that already have been selected).
In order to finish or cancel the selection go to the options bar.
You can also confirm the selection by pressing <enter>.
After finishing the ”Add tags’ dialog will pop up.

Export
Exporter

Sends an hsbcad model to the hsb export manager.
The hsb export manager is a separate application outside hsbcad that can export an hsbcad model to a variety of file formats.
From machine files to formats like .ifc and .pdf

Model Exchange

Exports selected Elements to an hsbCAD ModelExchange File.
Insert
Select the command.
The Dialog box hsbcad Exporter will open.
Select the options that you want to export.

Filter:
hsbcad Elements – Are Elements with hsbcad intelligence.
Item Containers – This is a group of Elements.
Architectural Items (Wall/Roof/Floor) – These are all the Architectural items.
Elements – These are all Revit Elements.
Model Name:
Give a name to the file you want to save.
Destination Directory Path:
The file will be saved at the destination directory you have selected.
Select OK, a *.hmlx file be generated and saved in the destination folder you have entered.
hsbShare

Send your model to hsbshare An app to facilitate communication channels between project owners and stakeholders, for sharing of extended metadata orientated around a 3D model. This centralized tool is shared among design offices, site teams and building owners.
Import
ModelX Import
The modelX import allows you to import a ModelExchange file to selected Elements which will be imported in Revit.
The only items that can be imported at this moment are beams and sheeting.
After you have selected the ModelX Import button, the following image will pop up:

Model Exchange File:
This will be the file that will be imported into the Revit model. You can navigate to the file by pressing the 3 dots.
Family Beam:
This is the dropdown that allows you to select the Revit Family you would like to use as the Beam family. You can create multiple other families in Revit and use these.
Family Sheet:
This is the dropdown that allows you to select the Revit Family you would like to use as the Sheet family. You can create multiple other families in Revit and use these.

Select to customize the hsbcad settings.
This shows a dialog where you can configure the hsbcad settings.
