Log Homes Tutorial (Video)

This document will provide information on how to create Log walls in hsb.
Before you can start to draw in hsbcad, you will need to create custom log profiles that suit your method of construction.

How to Define a New Log Wall

The next step is to create a Log Wall Definition that uses this extrusion profile.

  • Run the command hsbLog\ Log wall definitions

The Log wall definition dialog box will appear: press the New button to create a wall definition.


We will now define a specific code and add more information to each log we are going to use.

Wall information

Note: It is very important to make sure to select the extrusion profile that was just created in the drop down list marked Extrusion profile

Wall definition – Allows you to enter a descriptive name for the extrusion profile E.g. ‘BP2.’
Wall code – Enter a unique code

Note: The codes need to be unique to each wall generated.
If a wall is given a generated wall code ‘A’ then you can’t give another generated wall a wall code ‘A’.

Bottom / Top log course

True half log – Select this whether the log (before machining) is a half log.
Full log – Select this whether the log (before machining) is a full log.
True half log – Select this whether the log (before machining) is a half log.
Full log – Select this whether the log (before machining) is a full log. 

Chink and groove / Log properties

Gap (G) – Enter a measurement for the vertical gap between the logs. 
Name – Allows you to enter a descriptive name for the extrusion profile E.g. ‘Log’.
Material – Enter material name. 
Use Filler logs above/below openings – Select this if you want Packers above and below openings.
Element TSL’s – You can select a TSL here. 

Log Properties

Extrusion Profile – Select in the list a descriptive name for the extrusion profile.

IMPORTANT: if you don’t want to see the extrusion profile in your drawing then you can switch this on\off by selecting hsbGeneral \ hsbSettings \ Solid \ Extrusion Profile\select radio button Enable (On) Disable (Off).

Total height – Will be filled in automatically.
Tongue height – Enter tongue height.
Width – Will be filled in automatically.

Use bottom extrusion profile – Select it to use a special section shape for the bottom log course. You can select an extrusion profile under Extrusion profile.
Use top extrusion profile – Select it to use a special section shape for the top log course. You can select an extrusion profile under Extrusion profile.

Now the log wall definition with a custom extrusion profile is ready to be used!!
Do this for all the logs you will be using. hsblog\ Log wall definitions.

How to Draw log walls

Before drawing walls it is necessary to have defined at least one log wall definition.
And make sure that you are in your right group in the hsbConsole. (This can be any name you have given it) hsbcad provides the group functionality as a tool for more efficient layer management.
The groups have a hierarchical structure. Normally the parent group is named ‘Level 1’ or ‘Main Floor’ and can have 2 additional child groups that represent the floors, openings, rafters, posts, etc
To make a group current, select the box next to the light bulb. The current group is highlighted with an icon showing an X.
You will also want to get into the habit of also checking the Add new entities to current group box in the hsbConsole.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Draw wall.
  • Select the appropriate wall definition from the Create new wall dialog box and hit OK.

This will open the Wall definition dialog box (similar to the one you used to originally create you wall definitions.)
You can now change any properties, and specify a wall height, select OK.

You can now proceed to start to draw your Walls. As you draw your walls the Corner Cleanup dialog box appears. You will need to make sure you are entering the correct overhang value and how it is measured.

Important: You should always make sure that the green wall icon arrows are pointing from the outside edge in. This is especially important for non- symmetrical log profiles.

How to Adjust Wall intersections

While you are drawing the walls a dialog box will appear to adjust the Wall intersections.
This will define the connection of two walls.
This command works for corners as well as for t-connections.

  • Choose the Log wall crossing

You can enter the length of the wall overhangs on the right hand side of the dialog box.

If you want to make adjustments to the wall intersections you can select hsbLog\Adjust Wall intersection.

How to ReNumber Walls


When you draw Log walls these are automatically numbered, but if you want to manually change the numbering you can do the following:

  • Run the command hsbLog\Set Wall Number, The Element Renumber dialog box will appear. 
Type of Element
  • Select the Log walls option. The other options are for Panels/Sips, Stick frame walls, Roof/floor, Multi walls

Number format

Prefix – Fill in the type of prefix you want. (could be _GF or – or \ or / anything you want)
Number of digits – Fill in the number of digits you want.
Sequence type – Select numerical or alphabetical in the dropdown menu.
Start number (char A is 1) – Fill in the starting number.

Allow cross window selection – This allows you to use the cross selection window when you select the walls to be numbered, it will randomly number the walls itself.

If you don’t select Allow cross window selection you have to select the elements you want to renumber individual with the icon.

  • Select the elements with your left mouse button and confirm with the right button.

How to Draw an Openings

Before you start placing an opening in a wall, make sure that the correct Floor Group ( ) is current for the opening you are inserting. Also make sure that the height of the Floor Group is set correctly.
To set the floor height, right-click on the Floor Group and select Set Floor Info and enter the height value above 0 to the bottom of the wall on this Floor Level.

To place an opening use the hsbLog\Draw Opening command

General opening properties Tab

On the general opening properties tab you fill out the information that defines the size of the opening-Window or doors.

Description – This is the text that will appear at the opening in model space (e.g. Standard Door)
Width – Enter an opening width here, or select “specify on screen” and you will be able to pick points on screen for the left and right of the opening.
Height Bottom (A) – Enter the height from current groups floor height to the bottom of the opening.
Height Top (B) – Enter the height from current groups floor height to the top of the opening.
Opening Height (C = B-A) – Enter the height from the bottom of the opening to the top of the opening
Rise (D) – Enter the height of the Radius.

Opening Type – Select an hsbOpening type from here. (Opening-Window-Door)
Opening Style – If you have an Architectural Desktop opening type already defined, then you can select that style from here and you will see the opening style in model space.
Measure to – Choice out of Outside of frame / Inside of frame
Standard sizes

Read Values from catalog – Select this when using the Catalog to register the values that have been used. (Catalog can be found under log wall opening in this dialog box)
Custom Database – You can load data from an external database.

In the Log Wall Opening tab you can fill in any gaps to account for your recess where the buck lumber will go and this is where your catalog is stored.

Framing Milling

Top
Gap – Enter the vertical distance between top opening wall edge and window frame.
Height – Enter the depth of the notch.
Width – Enter the width of the notch.
Extra Length – Enter a measurement for the lateral extension of the notch at opening top.


Left (Slide 4/5)
Gap (A) – Enter the horizontal distance between wall edge and window frame.
Thickness (B) –Enter the Width of the notch.
Depth (C) – Enter a measurement for the bottom extension of the notch.
Width (D) – Enter the depth of the notch.


Right (Slide 4/5)
Gap (A) – Enter the horizontal distance between wall edge and window frame.
Thickness (B) –Enter the Width of the notch.
Depth (C) – Enter a measurement for the bottom extension of the notch.
Width (D) – Enter the depth of the notch.

Bottom
Gap – Enter the vertical distance between bottom opening wall edge and window frame.
Height – Enter the depth of the notch.
Width – Enter the width of the notch.
Extra length – A measurement for the lateral extension of the notch at opening bottom.

Location relative to wall

Inside wall edge – Mark it to set the inside wall edge as a reference side for potentially offsets.
Centre of wall – Mark it to set the center of wall as a reference side for potentially offsets. (If Offset = 0 => Tongue location is center of wall)
Outer wall edge – Mark it to set the outer wall edge as a reference side for potentially offsets.
Offset lateral millings – Enter the distance of the vertical notch relative to reference side.
Offset horizontal millings – Enter the distance of the horizontal notch relative to reference side.

Lateral opening cutouts (Slide 2/5)

Angle (A) – Enter the angle of the cutout.
Width (B) – Enter the width of the log at the opening end.

Catalog

After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press Save.
If you want to delete an item select the item and press delete.
To load a predefined Set you have to press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want.

How to Set height of first log

Once your walls have been placed, and depending on the type of profile/notch you are using, you may need to set the height of the first log to be a half log.
To accomplish this you can go to hsbLog\Set height of first log or select the following icon in the Ribbon.

Height of first log – fill in the value that you want, e.g. ½ (will measure the height of the log automatically) or 65 if the log height is 130mm.
Apply only to walls to world X-axis – select the walls in the X-axis.
Apply only to walls to world Y-axis – select the walls in the Y-axis.
Apply to all selected walls – Select the walls you want to apply this to.

How to Make Corner Connections – Standard log connection

This command will create personalized log connections.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Standard Connection or select the following icon in the Ribbon.

Standard log connection

The standard log connection dialog box will appear, fill in the values in the appropriate fields.

House depth (A) – Enter the lateral depth of the housing.
Depth top (B) – Enter the vertical depth of the housing at the log top.
Depth Bottom (C) – Enter the vertical depth of the housing at the log bottom.
Symmetrical – Select for symmetrical log profile

Tool Catalog

After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press Save.
If you want to delete an item select the item and press Delete from catalog.
To load a predefined Set you have to press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want.

After saving the settings you have to apply these to the walls, in the command line you will see you have to select 2 walls and then the other walls, Hit OK when finished.In each corner you will see a circle with a line through it.

A quick way to have a look at you corner connections once they are generated, is right click the mouse in the drawing and select ‘Object viewer

Fill in the necessary information in the dialog boxes that appear and do the same as above.
(We have a TSL (hsbLog DiagonalNotch.mcr) for the Diagonal Notch for loose beams)

How to Generate 3D model construction

The next step is to generate construction.
Before you generate the 3-D logs in the walls, you should start considering what type of roof system should go on this model. If there is only one level, you may want to move on
to creating a roof at this point so you can stretch any gable walls. To accomplish this, please refer to your Roofs document.
Once you are through adjusting any walls, you can move on to generating the 3-D logs.
To do so, you will need to run the hsbLog\Generate 3d Model command or select the following icon in the Ribbon. You will be prompted to select the walls and hit enter.

  • Select with left mouse button a log wall. (you can select more than one)
  • Confirm with right mouse button.

Once the logs have been generated, they all become their own individual objects. They can be edited and manipulated in any manner.

How to Delete Construction


If you want to go back a step you can delete Construction by going to ‘hsbLog\Delete Construction’ or select the following icon on the toolbar.

  • Select the walls that need the construction to be deleted and click with the left mouse button.

These walls will NOT be deleted in the drawing, just the construction of it.

How to Switch of the extrusion profile

There are times that you might want to switch of the Extrusion profile in your drawing without losing the extrusion profile. This can be done by selecting hsbGeneral\hsbSettings\Solids Tab and toggle between Disable/Enable.

How to Control the solid smoothness (AECFACETDEV)

When extrusion profiles with arc or circle segments (D-Logs, Swedish Cope, etc), you can control the smoothness of the solid with system variable AECFACETDEV.
The lower the value specified the smoother the appearance will be.
The following example shows on the left logs with a deviation of 1/16 of an inch.

The image on the right shows the same logs with a deviation of 0.05.
To change the value simply type AECFACETDEV in the command line.
After the value has been changed it is necessary to force a regeneration of the solid of the hsbcad beams.
To do this, please run the command hsbEdit\ReCal Beams/Items. You will need to select all of the timbers, and hit enter.

How to Split log Walls


You have 2 ways of splitting walls: this is to split logs to get realistic log length and length connections.

  1. Log split Wall

Automatic wall splitting tab

Once you have generated the 3-D logs in your model you can begin to do some of the ‘clean up’ work such as splitting the logs. You will want to isolate the groups in your
hsbConsole that you wish to apply splitting rules to.
To split walls run the command hsbLog\Log split wall or select the following icon on the toolbar.

Note: Don’t forget once you have generated your walls and split them, don’t use the Delete construction, you will lose all the actions.

Splitting operation

None (just mark with line) – Select this if you just want to see a reference line in your drawing.
Cut – Select this if you want the logs to be cut.
Housed dovetail – Select this if to create a housed dovetail on a splitting point.
End tenon – Select this to create a tenon connection on a splitting point.
TSL (macro) – Select this to create a TSL on a splitting point.

Tool location reference from

Inside wall edge – Select to set the inside wall edge as a reference side for potentially offsets
Centre of wall – Select to set the center of wall as a reference side for potentially offsets. (If Offset = 0 => spline location is center of wall).
Outer wall edge – Select to set the outer wall edge as a reference side for potentially offsets.
Offset – You can input the distance between spline axis and reference side.

  • Select one of these options

Mark split points always – Select to mark it.
Mark attempted split points – Select to mark wrong generated splitting points in a certain color.

Manual mode

Enable manual mode – Select this to allow options Select and Point.
Auto – Select this to split the wall automatically.
Select – Select this to select log course and splitting points to define the splits.
Point – Select this to select any splitting points to define the splits.

Stacked split location

Use stacked split location –
Start with 2nd log course – This will start the split at the 2nd course.

Catalog

After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press Save.
If you want to delete an item select the item and press delete.
To load a predefined Set you have to press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want.

Settings Tab
Log parameters

Maximum length – Enter the max. Length of the logs.
Minimum length – Enter the min. Length of the logs.
Round off to – Enter the accuracy of length.

Opening parameters

Nr. of free courses above opening – Enter the amount of logs you want above an opening which won’t be split. Those courses are additional courses to the log course directly above the opening. (If you don’t want to split the courses you have to mark ‘Minimum distance applies’ to free log courses also)
Nr. of free courses below opening – Enter the amount of logs you want below an opening which won’t be split. Those courses are additional courses to the log course directly above the opening. (If you don’t want to split the courses you have to mark ‘Minimum distance applies’ to free log courses also)
Minimum distance from opening – Enter the distance between splitting points and opening. If a splitting point is within this distance from the opening there won’t be a split.
Minimum distance applies to free log courses also – Select this to prevent splitting the log courses below and above openings.

General

Minimum distance from face of notch – Enter a minimum distance between splitting points and corner connection.
Minimum distance to adjacent log – Enter a minimum distance between splitting points and an adjacent log.
Minimum distance to through-bolt – Enter a minimum distance between splitting points and a through bolt.
Minimum distance to TSL – Enter minimum distance between splitting points and a TSL.

Level randomness

Go left if you want less randomness level for the distribution of splitting points.
Go right if you want More randomness level for the distribution of splitting points.

Performance

Maximum nr of attempts to split wall – Enter the nr of attempts that you want to split the walls.
Maximum nr of attempts to split each log – Enter the nr of attempts that you want to split each log.

Skip logs that fail – Select this to skip logs that fail.

Dove Tail End Connection Tab
  • (Select this button to scroll through the different pictures)

House depth (E) – Enter the depth of the housing.
House width (F) – Enter width of the housing.
House length (G) – NO VALUE
Tolerance (T) – Enter the tolerance for the dovetail connection.
Additional mortise depth (H) –Enter the additional mortise depth.

Water drip slot
Depth (I) – Enter the slot depth.
Width (J) – Enter the slot width.
Offset (K) – Enter the lateral offset for the slot.

Extend through beam (L) – NO VALUE
Use one female tool (dovetail + housing) (M)

Tool Catalog – After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press Save.
If you want to delete an item select the item and press delete.
To load a predefined Set you have to press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want

End Tenon Tab
  • Select this button to scroll through the different pictures

Length (C) – Enter the tenon length.
Depth (A) – Enter the tenon depth.
Width (B) – Enter the tenon width.
Tolerance (D) – Enter the tolerance between mortise and tenon.
Extend through beam (E) – NO VALUE

Tool Catalog – After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press Save.
If you want to delete an item select the item and press delete.
To load a predefined Set you have to press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want

Tool Lag DrillingsTab
Drilling direction
  • Select one of these options
Drilling direction

From top face – Enter to start drilling from top face of beam.
From bottom face – Enter to start drilling from bottom face of beam.

Offset from tool – Enter offset of the drilling between distribution point and actual drilling. (along beam axis)
Lateral offset from tool – Enter the lateral offset of the drilling.
Drill depth (0=completely) – Enter the depth of the drilling. (if you input 0 there will be a continuous drill)
Diameter – Enter the diameter of the drilling.
Sinkhole depth – Enter the depth of the sinkhole. (the position of the sinkhole is on the beam face where the drilling starts – see Drilling direction)
Sinkhole diameter – Enter the diameter of the sinkhole.

Skip lag if drill found between distance

Maximum distance from drill – Enter the max. distance from drill.
Catalog – After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press Save.
If you want to delete an item select the item and press delete.
To load a predefined Set you have to press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want.

TSL Connection Tab

Here you can select a TSL and insert it at the splitting point.
This TSL can be found in you hsbCompany\TSL folder.

Optimize log length

The second way of splitting your log walls is using this command Optimize log length. Once you have generated the 3-D logs in your model you can begin to do some of the clean up work such as splitting the logs. You will want to isolate the groups in your hsbConsole that you wish to apply splitting rules to.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Optimize Log Length.

You will get the following dialog box:

  • Fill in all the relevant information involved to your project you are working on.
Optimize weight – Optimize leftover

Move the slider more to the left or right, you have the choice to optimize more based on leftover wood, or by what is in the inventory (Weight), the grade of important.

Optimize Attempts

Maximum optimization attempts – Enter a number (recommended is 100).
Max attempts to split each log – Enter a number (recommended is 30).

Logs Length

Maximum length – Enter the max. length of the log.
Minimum length – Enter the min. length of the log.

Openings


Number of courses above an opening (A) – Enter the amount of courses above an opening.
Number of courses below an opening (B) – Enter the amount of courses below an opening.
Minimum distance from opening (C) – Enter the min. distance you want between the opening and a cut.
Max distance applies to free courses (D) – If this is checked no cuts will appear in the blue hatched area.
Round of to – Enter the round of value
Minimum distance to adjacent log (E) – Enter min. distance to adjacent log.
Minimum distance to face of a notch (F) – Enter min. distance to face of notch.
Minimum distance to through bolt (G) – Enter min distance to through bolt.

Inventory

Inventory
To edit an inventory items, hit the Inventory button. You will get the following dialog box:

  • Fill in the necessary information and press OK.
  • Select the walls you want to optimize. Based on the rules you have specified, the optimizer will begin to split the logs trying to minimize waste while staying within the guidelines it must follow.

You can abort the number of attempts and accept a sufficient percentage at any time by hitting the Get best candidate so far button.

The wall is split.

How to Apply Numbering

This command allows you to apply numbers to beams, panels, sheetings and metal parts.
If you want to create a bill of materials in excel-format you have to apply the numbering first.

The display of the numbering is controlled in the hsbGeneral\hsbSettings dialog box on both the Numbering and Numbering 2 tabs.

  • Run the command hsbInOutput\Apply numbering.

The following dialog box will appear, this dialog box can be used for the stickframe walls as for the log walls and the panel walls.

Select ”Enable log wall presorting”
  • Fill in the info and confirm with OK, the numbering of the beams will go automatically.

Log Course based Numbering

This command works in combination with Apply numbering, you have to run the Apply numbering first. With this command you can set the layout of the log numbering.

  • Run the command hsbLog\ Log course based Numbering or select the following icon on the Toolbar.

How to Make a Through Bolt

This function is to make drills into the log walls for through bolts.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Through bolt or select the following icon in the Ribbon.
  • Select this button to scroll through the different pictures

Trough bolt tab

Diameter (A) – Enter the diameter of the hole / drill

Sinkholes

Diameter sinkhole 1 (B1) – Enter the diameter of the sinkhole 1, top of the wall.
Depth sinkhole 1 (B2) – Enter the depth of the sinkhole 1, top of the wall.
Diameter sinkhole 2 (C1) – Enter the diameter of the sinkhole 2, bottom of the wall
Depth sinkhole 2 (C2) – Enter the depth of the sinkhole 2, bottom of the wall

Beam distribution

Max. Spacing (D) – Fill in the Max. distance between the drills along the wall axis
Distribution type – Select in the dropdown menu one of the 4 options

  • Adjust end beam spacing
  • Constant spacing
  • Constant spacing last odd
  • Distribute evenly

Tool location
  • Select one of these options: This will defines the reference side for the lateral offset of the drill / hole

Inside edge – Select this if you want the drills to be situated on the inside edge of the beams.
Center – Select this if you want the holes to be situated in the center of the beams.
Outside edge – Select this if you want the holes to be situated on the outer edge of the beams.

Offset from outer edge – Enter an offset number (Can only be used when your Outside edge is selected)

Tool Catalog

After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press Save
If you want to delete an item select the item and press delete.
To load a predefined Set press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want.
Include hardware – Select this option if you want to include the hardware for the joint, you have to set the properties for the hardware in the tab Hardware.

  • When everything is filled in and you have included the hardware, go to the hardware tab.

Hardware Tab

In the hardware tab you can add hardware (e.g. screws, nails, pegs, bolts, etc.) to the connection.
This hardware will be listed in the stock sheet and element list.

Edit list Components

Insert new –
Append new –
New sub component –

Move up –

Hardware catalog

After you have entered all the information, you can store this in the catalog by pressing Add, fill in an appropriate name and press OK.
If you want to delete an item select the item and press delete from catalog.
To load a predefined Set press the arrow on the right side of the box and select the Set you want.

Custom

This option has been made for customers who have an existing catalog.
Executables – Select your own *.exe file.
Data file – Select your own Data file (Optional).

Special action on selected hardware

Set Drill diameter based on over / under drill – This option will highlight once you have selected something from the list, you can then enter a number for the over drill.

  • When everything is filled in, select with the left mouse button a wall.
  • Select with the left mouse button the start point of distribution.
  • Select with the left mouse button the end point of distribution.
  • Repeat these steps and confirm with right mouse button.

How to Make Wall Shop Drawings

Using this command you can create 2D-drawings / shop drawings of log walls. The shop drawing is the front view of the log wall. You can add the log course based numbering and a dimensioning to the shop drawing.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Wall shop drawing.

Viewing direction
  • Select one of these options

View from outside – You can select whether the front view of the shop drawing is from the opposite side of icon side.
View from inside – You can select whether the front view of the shop drawing is from icon side.

Spacing between dimension chains – Enter the distance between the shop drawing and the dimension chains.

Log label
  • Select one of these options


Text derived from numbering settings – You can select whether the text of the numbering should be displayed.
Only position number – You can select whether only the position numbering should be displayed.

Text height – Enter the text height.

Dimensions

Generate dimensions – Select if you want to generate dimensions.
Dimension openings – Select if you want o generate dimensions for openings.

Dimension style – Select one of the dimension styles in the dropdown menu’s (this option can only be selected when Generate Dimension is checked on)

Pattern name – Enter a name of a hatch pattern.
Color – Select a color from the dropdown menu.
Scale – Enter the scale you want to hatch to be.
Hatch Log Courses
Pattern name – Enter a name of a hatch pattern.
Color – Select a color from the dropdown menu. (This doesn’t work )
Scale – Enter the scale you want to hatch to be.
Log courses to hatch – ……

Display additional objects belonging to element group – Select this ……

  • When everything is fill in select OK and select the walls, select the additional object (if you don’t want additional object to be selected just Enter).
  • Select a point in the drawing where you want the drawing to be situated.

How to Set the Wall Roofline

Using this command will set your ACA walls to the roofline.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Set the Wall Roofline

You need to know a bit about hsbPlanes (How to draw Planes)

  • Once you have run this command select the walls you want to go to your Roofline to.

You will get the following dialog box

Select roof planes – select manually the roof planes.
Roof plane code – Each roof plane has a code, in this case it’s ‘A’
Maximum height (0=none) – Enter the max height the wall has to be.
Slice with all roof planes – Select if you want to slice with all roofplanes

Remove bevels – Select this if you want to remove the bevels.

Once you have made your choice you will get the following, walls are generated to the roofline.

  • To go back to the original wall height, select hsbLog\Reset Roofline

How to Cut Out an Opening

Another way of making an opening in log walls is the use of Cut out Opening.
Your Walls have to be Generated for this function to act. When you Generate the walls again the opening
will disappear, so it’s best to Lock your walls after you have used this function.

This function is to make an opening in the walls by means of a polyline, circles or openings. These polylines have to be in the same plane as the log wall.
Cut out openings where a window, door or opening is but the log wall hasn’t been generated.

  • Select single logs to cut with an opening boundary.
  • Draw a polyline in the wall you want an opening in. Place them in the position you want it.
  • Run the command hsbLog\Cut out Opening or select the following icon in the Ribbon.

You will get the following dialog box:

  • Select one or both options

Automatic log selection – You can mark it to select all logs separately instead of selecting the whole wall.
Automatic opening selection – You can mark it to select the opening when selecting the wall instead of selecting the opening separately.

  • Select the Element (Wall) and then select the polyline, an opening in the shape of your polyline will be created.

How to use Add hsbdata to ADT Opening

If you want to editan existing openings.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Add hsbData opening or select the following icon in the Ribbon.

See the previous chapter hsbLog\Draw Opening on how to fill in the dialog box.

How to Add hsbData to ACA Walls

This Command assigns hsbData to ADT walls or assigns a new wall type to an already existing wall.

  • Run the command hsbLog\Add hsbData or select the following icon on the Dutch ribbon.

When you have selected the command you will be prompted to select a Wall(s) then you will get the following dialog box.

  • Select the log Wall type and a wall code.
  • Select OK.
  • The Wall definition dialog box will appear, select OK.

If the ACA and hsb wall type aren’t the same width you will be prompted with this dialog box.
